Personally from a perspective of someone that make events and pay for every single DJ or MC even if they are a friend cos without supporting each other how will we expected to be a United family in Drum and Bass. If your not being paid a penny or getting anything in return the artist should decline and make an example. I'm not rich but if I can afford to pay for talent to play then I shouldn't charge ticket prices xx
"Thing on that I saw was if they are up and comer they probably wouldn’t have a following anyway so can’t be judged on bringing people in , you Gauge them on how uplifting or heavy the set how the crowd react.. amongst other things"(Barry Witt)
Depends what level and all I guess they at. I can and have DJ a set off a keyboard as a trigger to load tunes off my mates traktor programme lol in a pub now he’s now on kool gets anything he feels for the booking back then it was. 80£ for him all night now I got free drinks and I was always vip or his plus one.
When djing as a rule unless he was b2b with xxx now he’s 500£ for a few hours or so lol that’s over 10 years also who’s booked them!?
They may not know who someone’s worth is also! Lol(anonymous raver)
Appreciate your response... problem is, the promoter might have given them the opportunity so they can start building a following.. but if the DJ has NO fans... its got to be hard for the promoter to make that investment?
Depends where they're playing, and if others at their level are being paid or not (e.g. at the same event). But surely, if a promoter has researched them and booked them because they think that they can bring something good to an event, they deserve to be rewarded in some way? And not necessarily the reward of "getting to play"...

Some promoters say NO, because if you don't have fans.. why should they value you... as no one else does...
